2009 Top Albums....SO FAR

so we are only nine months into the year but that doesn't mean i cant just make a list of teh best albums that have been dropped this year!

5. Wilco: Wilco (The Album)
i have to admit that i love the direction wilco went with this album, it's a real impressive feat to go most of your career without putting out a self titled let alone a self titled track. but yet wilco can do that bc of the fact that they are wilco. don't take the album for granted though, its a great piece of music so definitely worth a purchase.
GRADE REPORT: B-

4. The Dirty Projectors: Bitte Orca
when i was compiling this list i totally and utterly forgot these guys. how fucking awesome they sound! the first few tracks give you a led zeppelin feel but then it changes. this album should be spun or listened to by all fans of any genre of rock music.
GRADE REPORT: B

3. The Decemberists: The Hazards of Love
most of you guys know my feelings on this album, esp after seeing them live my view has changed a bit. it's a solid album from start to finish albeit not the best album the band has put out but still a great record by all means. it's confusing at times but hey, isn't that how concepts work?
GRADE REPORT: B

2. Say Hi (To Your Mom): Oohs and Aahs
i think my reason for loving this guy so much is his melodramatic vocals and synth driven sound. it's got this vibe that you just can't shake off. yeah it has pop elements but it still has that brooding semi smiths/cure vibe to it that you cant just shake.
GRADE REPORT: B+

1. Phoenix: Wolfgang Amedaus Phoenix

obviously one of the best albums of the year. it leaves you in awe after nine splendid tracks. these french indie synth driven rockers know what they are doing, i fell in over my head after listening to these mates.
GRADE REPORT: A+

im capping it at five but the other five are in no real order

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: It's Blitz
Imogen Heap: Ellipse
Regina Spektor: Far
Porcupine Tree: The Incident

tune in tonight for the second episode of the season!

dude...ellipse is such a letdown. i don't there's any single potential beyond "last train home", which is pretty great. maybe "little bird" or "bad body double". everything else is just...not great.

WHERE'S SONIC YOUTH?!?
