media assignment stuff that is stuff like

After sitting back and learning about all the advertising fun we could have in class I took the time the other day to make hasteful note of all the beautiful ads I encountered during a regular day for me. Shockingly it wasn't as much as i thought, but then again I probably didn't count some of them. We are bombarded by ads every day, in every facet. Your very T-Shirt is considered an ad suggesting that we listen to that band or buy that beer or watch that movie. It's nothing short to suggest that that should count? But alas for the sake of my sanity I didn't count it!

The first batch of ads I encountered was on the campus bus. I am like a sloth, lazy and unmovable, which is why I was taking the bus. Slathered all on the ceiling of the bus was ads for intown places such as Camillos. I really didn't think much of it as I take the bus everyday about twice a day so I'm used to it. Personally I just find it funny that they even bother trying to reach poor kids like us.

Later that day when I got some time to log onto the world wide web that was brought to us by Al Gore I was bombarded with ads all over the place. Facebook seems to be stalking me in the non virtual world as the ads on the side bar all were for products or things that really would interest me. "Want to watch Boston Red Sox games online?" Hell yeah I do...oh wait, shit why did i click on that? (I didn't click) There were ads there for the silliest things, "Single? Want to mingle? Males 21+", um do you think I'm that desperate Facebook? They refused to comment on that.

Checking the baseball scores on MLB's own website to see if my beloved Red Sox won I get a pop up ad for NetFlix. I don't know why I, a baseball fan, give a damn about NetFlix. Later as i navigate the site there are ads for buying baseball merchandise and cable. CABLE! WOAH! That's new to me, do I want to buy my own cable?

After viewing all these ads, I realized that wow, this is just disturbing. I was too freaked out because I had to pay attention to even watch the television that night. I just went back to my room shut off the computer and turned on the PlayStation 3 and let that wipe my mind clean of this madness.
