Terminator Will Not Join the Whedon-verse

Hasta la vista! That’s what is being said over at Halycon as they announced their bankruptcy not too long ago and are pushing the rights of their biggest franchise Terminator of which they bought for $25 million two years ago.

Joss Whedon published a public note on the fan site Whedonesque. He made a semi-serious tongue in cheek bid for the franchise offering $10,000 for the rights to make more movies and television programs. There was no comment from the current holders over at Halycon but according to the Financial Times the franchise is going to be expected to go for an estimated $60 million at auction. Even if they get the minimum of the sixty mil they would believe it or not make a smooth cool profit on the rights.

Whedon, who is known for the shows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” as well as the rather short lived FOX series “Firefly” and soon to be cancelled “Dollhouse” is being serious about the purchase. On his public note Whedon is quoted as saying: I have heard through the 'grapevine' that the Terminator franchise is for sale, and I am prepared to make a pre-emptive bid RIGHT NOW to wrap this dealio up. This is not a joke, this is not a scam, this is not available on TV. I will write a check TODAY for $10,000, and viola! Terminator off your hands.

Kevin Shultz, a managing director at FTI Consulting is leading the deal told CNN that he was not aware of there being an offer by Whedon. Shultz though also told CNN that he is not even sure if Whedon’s bid would even be considered in an auction where it is expected to reach large amounts of money.

Whedon told Entertainment Weekly that he was just being a dumb ass of which he says he does best but he’s not even good at that. He also was quoted as stating “Congratulations! We’ll have that $10,000 now!” referring to getting a call from Halycon. Whedon is unlikely to get the rights with competitors like Sony.
Although Whedon most likely won’t get the franchise he so loves, all the nerds in the world though can keep their fingers crossed as Whedon could still land the directorial role in a future film.
